Lille do not need much of the ball; they are built to break quickly.
While Lille are one of the sides with the lowest possession in Ligue 1 this season, Davide Ancelotti's team has the ideal profile to exploit those gaps on the fast break. our translation
Lille invite you forward, then hit the space behind with quick wingers.
He likes to start moves from the back, draw the opponent into his own half and punish the space with direct wingers, with discipline without the ball and speed in transition that were non-negotiable at Real Madrid, where he worked with Carlo Ancelotti. our translation
Their most dangerous attacks come down their right side, where right-back Tiago Santos runs past Ethan Mbappé to join the attack. Against PSG every big chance came from that side.
“Les plus grosses occasions lilloises sont d’ailleurs passées par ce côté gauche de la défense parisienne.”Lille's biggest chances did in fact all come down that left side of the Paris defence. our translation
Lille hunt the ball high up. Two midfielders step up to lock the middle, the wingers herd the ball out towards the touchline, and the full-backs step right up to meet it there.
“Mukau et Bentaleb montent d’un cran pour verrouiller Belkhdim et Diatta tandis que les ailiers Önal et Mbappé orientent la relance vers l’extérieur avec un positionnement haut des latéraux Perraud et Santos.”Mukau and Bentaleb step up a level to lock down Belkhdim and Diatta while the wingers Önal and Mbappé steer the ball out towards the touchline, with the full-backs Perraud and Santos positioned high. our translation
Their full-backs push so far forward that if Lille lose the ball in midfield there is open grass behind them. Quick wingers punish that.
With the full-backs positioned very high while Lille have the ball, the slightest loss of possession in midfield will open motorways for lively opposition wide players such as Jim Allevinah, Lilian Raolisoa and Anthony Bermont. our translation
